How do I copy a file on my computer?

There are several methods of copying files from one location to another. The instructions below demonstrate one method of copying a file.

Open Windows Explorer by clicking on the Start button and choosing Windows Explorer from the Programs menu. You will then see an interface with a pane on the left and right side. The pane on the left will show all of your logical drives, directories and folders. Open the TKO or SRCAD directory by double clicking on the folder in the left hand pane. The right hand pane will show all of the sub-directories and files contained within the TKO or SRCAD folder. In the left pane you will see the TKO or SRCAD folder branch out with its sub-directories. One of the subdirectories will be the DWGS folder. Double click on the DWGS folder and you will see sample drawing file names in the pane to the right. You should see something like this:

copy1.jpg (36545 bytes)

Select the Sample3.dw2 or Sample.dw2 file in the right hand pane by clicking on it one time. The file name will appear in a highlight color similar to the screenshot above. Now that the file is selected, you can drag and drop it to another location on your computer. For this example, we will copy the sample drawing to your floppy drive. Put a blank floppy in the A: drive. Next, scroll to the top of the left hand pane and you will see similar to the following:

copy2.jpg (37719 bytes)

Now that the source file is in view in the right hand pane and the destination folder/drive is in view in the left hand pane, you can now copy the file. Click and holding down your right mouse button on the Sample.dw2 file. While the right mouse button is still being held down, drag the file name over to the 3 1/2 Floppy(A:) drive in the left hand pane. When the floppy drive highlights, let go of the right mouse button and a menu will appear. Select Copy from the resulting menu. You should now see a dialog box indicating that the file is being copied. In this example we used the right mouse button because it gives you the option to Move, Copy, or Create a Shortcut. If you use the left mouse button, the program will automatically made a copy of the file.
