How can I scale an image after it is on the design screen?
If you did not scale the image when you inserted the image onto the design screen, you must scale the image before you begin the design process. To scale the image, you must determine the distance between two known points such as the width of a sidewalk, the length of a wall, or the length of a property line. Once you measure a distance, divide the actual known distance between the two points by the measured distance.
Before you attempt to scale the image, be sure to unlock the layer on which the image is placed. If the image is originally placed as a background image during the insertion process, the image will appear on the Background Image layer.- Open the Layer Manager.
- Click on the pad lock icon to the left of the Background Image layer name until the icon displays the pad lock in the unlocked position.
To measure a distance between two points on the image:- Press the "A" key on the keyboard to enact the Anchor Point command.
- Using the Measurement command, set a point on the design screen by clicking one time with the left mouse button at one end of a known distance.
- Drag the mouse to the opposite end of the known distance and read the measurement between the two locations.
To scale the image:- Divide the actual known distance by the measured distance to determine a scale factor. For example, suppose the garage on the front of the house measured 2.1079 units. Dividing the actual known distance of 20 feet by the measured distance of 2.1079 gives you a scale factor of 9.4881.
- Select the image with the mouse by clicking on the image one time with the left mouse button.
- On the Edit menu, choose Scale.
- Enter the scale factor in the text box and click on the OK button to scale the image.
After the image is scaled it is best to lock the layer on which the image is placed. This will prevent you from accidentally moving the image during the design process. Return to the Layer Manager and click on the pad lock icon to the left of the layer name until the icon displays the pad lock in the locked position.
