The hatching fill does not appear in my plant or sprinkler symbols.

Your fill mode is turned off. Select Fill from the Settings menu or type Fill in the command line and answer either On or Off to turn the fills on or off. Select Regen from the View menu to regenerate the drawing and the fill patterns should appear.
