Things You Should Do

You should take a few steps before you begin the design process. Some of the following items are optional, however, items such as setting the drawing Units are necessary.  The following is a list of suggested procedures:

  1. You must select the desire drawing Units before you begin a design.

  2. Pro Contractor Studio will allow you to build databases of supplies that can be combined into tied assemblies.  If you plan to make use of the tied assemblies for material takeoff or estimate/proposals, it will be necessary to create the supplies and combine them into tied assemblies.

  3. For estimate and proposal purposes, you must complete the list price, discount rate and labor rate in all of the necessary database selections in the Equipment Costs command.

  4. If you have not started your design using a pre-built template file, you will need to create layers in the Layer Manager for different entities such as Property, Driveway, Walkway and Bedlines.  You will need to adjust the characteristics of the layers including the line style selection, scale and width.

  5. In the Options command from the Tools menu, you may preset information such as the line type scale setting for the mainline, the text size for pipe size labels and more. It is beneficial to review these adjustments and establish default settings before you begin a design.

  6. When placing equipment on the design screen, it is necessary to select the symbol to represent the equipment on the drawing.

  7. When your drawing is printed or plotted to a 1 = 10 or 1 = 20 scale, the symbols are normally legible.  If you output the drawing to a smaller scale such as a 1 = 40 scale, the symbols may be too small to be visible.  It is highly recommended that you consider the desired output scale of the drawing and adjust the Symbol Scale Factors before you begin a design.
