The Print command will allow you to output your design to the printing device of your choice.  The paper size and scale of your design are preset when you create the initial drawing page using the New command or by selecting a template in the Startup Screen.  The drawing screen is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) interface that allows the drawing to appear very similar to the end result during the design process.  Symbol sizes, colors, line types and scales all appear on the screen very similar to what they will look like when output to a sheet of paper.

To send the design to a printing device:

  1. If you do not want to print the paper border, turn off the border by clicking on the Show / Hide Paper toolbar icon before beginning the printing process.

  2. Select the desired device from the list of available drivers.

  3. Adjust any settings as necessary.

  4. Click on the Print button to send the drawing to the printing device.

Note:

  • The Print Mode is set in the Options command on the General tab.  The mode setting affects the speed of the process and the printing of transparencies and render effects.

  • If XPS Printing is selected as the Print Mode in the Options command, when you click on the Print command from the File menu Pro Contractor Studio creates an XPS file in the /temp folder.  It has the same name as the drawing but with an XPS extension.  You can send this file to most reprographic company's for output.  The temp folder is cleared each time you start the Pro Contractor Studio program.

  • The paper size, orientation and scale for the drawing are set using the Drawing Page Setup command when you first begin a design or from a template selected in the Startup Screen.  Be sure the paper size and orientation are set correctly in the printer driver prior to printing a design.

  • You may output the drawing to an Adobe PDF file if you have a driver installed on your computer.  You may purchase a driver from Adobe or you may find another PDF driver by searching the Internet.  Be sure to adjust the paper orientation and size if necessary before printing to the PDF format.

  • If a layer is set to invisible, it will not print during the printing process.

  • You can temporarily turn off fill patterns or render effects to speed up the printing process by un-checking the Show Fills or Show Render Effects boxes in the Layer Manager.

  • You cannot print selected entities on a design.  The program will un-select the entities during the printing process.  If you need to print a portion of the design, select the entities and copy them to a new drawing page, then print the new page.
