The Leader command will allow you to draw a leader on the design screen with text attached or a simple arrow.  Before drawing a leader, make sure you have chosen the correct layer assignment.

To draw a leader:

  1. Select the type of end point on the leader from the Leader Type drop down menu.

  2. If an arrow is selected as the Leader Type, enter a size for the arrow head in the Arrow Size text box.

  3. Enter the text to place on the leader in the Text box.  If the box is left empty, the command will place a single line or an arrow on the design screen.

  4. Select the font style for the text from the Font drop down menu.  A sample of the selected font will appear in the Text Preview window at the bottom of the dialog box.

  5. Adjust the font characteristics by clicking on the checkbox to the left of Bold, Italic and Underline.  A check mark in the box indicates the characteristic is turned on (enabled).  An empty box indicates the characteristic is turned off (disabled).  A sample of the selected font and enabled characteristics will appear in the Text Preview window at the bottom of the dialog box.

  6. Adjust the alignment of the text by clicking on the Alignment drop down menu and clicking on the selection of choice.  The alignment determines the position of the text in relation to the mouse cursor during placement.  The alignment location is shown in the Text Preview window as a small blue plus (+) sign.  

  7. Enter the height of the font in the Font Height text box.  The height is related to the units of measurement setting.  For example, a setting of 10 will equate to 10 feet or 10 meters depending on the units of measurement setting.  The height is not reflected in the Text Preview window.

  8. Click on the Draw Leader button and click one time with the left mouse button to set a point for the beginning of a leader or the arrow head location.  The Anchor Point will be set at the beginning point location.

  9. Set two or more additional points for the leader line and text location.

  10. Press the Enter key to end the command.

Note:

  • The color of the leader and text is determined by the color of the layer it is placed on.

  • You can add, delete or move points or grip locations on a selected leader.
